Guidelines for law enforcement

Werkhaus is a render-monitoring service run by Hoek Creative & Co., a United States company. This page says how to send us legal process, what we hold, and what we need before we disclose anything. It is written for agencies; it is not legal advice.

01Where and what to send

Send legal process to legal@werkhaus.app. We accept service by email from an official agency address. Please include:

We verify every request by calling the agency back on a number we find ourselves, never a number in the email. A request we cannot verify gets preservation only, which discloses nothing.

02What Werkhaus holds, in plain words

Several records age out on their own schedule (network records after a day, upload addresses after 90 days, preview frames on roll-off). A preservation request stops that for the named accounts; see below.

03What each kind of record needs

We produce only what the process covers, by a secure method agreed with you, never by plain email. Every disclosure is recorded.

04Preservation requests

A request under 18 U.S.C. 2703(f) preserves the named accounts' records for 90 days, extendable once by another 90 days, while you obtain process. On receipt we take a copy of the in-scope records as they stand that day, so records that would otherwise age out are kept. Records that no longer existed when the request arrived are recorded as not held; they are never re-created. A preservation discloses nothing.

05Emergencies

If there is a danger of death or serious physical injury, email legal@werkhaus.app with EMERGENCY in the subject, the facts that make it urgent, and a phone number at the agency. We call back on an independently found number before anything is disclosed, at any hour.

Where we believe in good faith that an emergency requires it, we may disclose the minimum needed under 18 U.S.C. 2702(b)(8) and (c)(4). Forged emergency requests are a known way to steal people's data, which is why the call-back comes first, even at night.

06Notice to the person

Our policy is to tell the person about legal process for their records, unless a court order says not to, the law forbids it, or notice would endanger someone. Please say in your request whether notice is restricted and until when.

07Outside the United States

Werkhaus accepts process from courts and agencies in the United States. Requests from other countries should come through the applicable mutual legal assistance process or a US court. Werkhaus does not offer Community outside the United States at this time.
